Research Lab for Investigative Journalism

6. December 2013 @ 10:00 - 18:00

€32 – €98

On 6 December 2013 the Research Lab for Investigative Journalism will take place at SUPERMARKT. The event is designed for both professional and aspiring journalists who are interested in investigative work. The topics covered will include digital storytelling, cross-border global research and freedom of information.

The lab is organised by independent journalists, lecturers and Grimme Online Award winner Marvin Oppong. The foci of his reporting include corruption, lobbying, privacy policy and the media, with specialty areas including the Freedom of Information Act, data journalism and tools for internet research. Oppong’s work has been published by news publications SPIEGEL and STERN, the weekly newspaper DIE ZEIT, as well as newspapers including Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and Frankfurter Rundschau.

The lab is more than a research seminar. The concept is for the best researchers and experts to come together and exchange ideas on the latest research methods in the digital world, in a relaxed atmosphere, with coffee and Wi-Fi. The themes of the lab are research techniques and tools, data journalism, open data and social media. The philosophy is that the approaches should go above and beyond existing limits of knowledge.

Guests include: Harald Schumann (Der Tagesspiegel), Marco Maas (OpenDataCity), Dr. Ingrid Männl (Geheimes Staatsarchiv Preußischer Kulturbesitz) und Herbert Klar (Frontal 21, ZDF).
