National Health Service and German Healthcare: At Risk

9. December 2017 @ 16:00 - 18:00

500m is the new 350m. The NHS Confederation made clear before last week’s Budget that in a ‘worst case Brexit scenario’, the NHS could lose 500m a year. That doesn’t account for the staff losses as result of European health professionals being left in the lurch over citizens rights and a rise in xenophobia in the UK.

Today in both German and British healthcare systems we see similar concerns: mass reorganisations, high vacancy rates, and difficulties in providing adequate patient care with tight resources. For the past year, nurses across Germany have been on strike for better working conditions and more time with their patients.

On December 9th, in conjunction with the NHS Action Day called by Open Britain and European Movement UK, we’ll be discussing the state of healthcare here and at home with workers, researchers and campaigners. We’ll discuss the risks to the NHS of a hard Brexit, and what opportunities there are to defend quality healthcare.
