Online Security: E-Mail Encryption

22. August 2013 @ 14:00 - 18:00

We’ve hosted this workshop already in February this year, but with only few participants. Six months and one PRISM scandal later we have realised that Online Security is not just a nerdy topic, but relevant for everyone.

Do you want to send confidential information so that no one except you and your recipient can access the information? Email security has become an important and relevant issue for the exchange of business and personal information via email. S/MIME and PGP ensure that private emails remain private. This workshop presents techniques and shows practical steps on how to easily encrypt email with cross-platform encryption. It does not require any technical knowledge.

During this workshop you will learn:

1. Online Security: How secure are emails in general?
2. Encryption
3. How does encryption work? S/MIME (Certificate-based encryption) and OpenPGP
4. In practice

Short Bio

Host Kristian Kissling studied German at the FU Berlin, but by the 90s he already preferred working with Linux than Kafka. Kissling is currently editor of Linux Magazine. In times of increased surveillance by governments and companies, he finds protection of privacy on the internet to be more important than ever.

This workshop is free. The language of presentation will be German or English, depending on the participants who RSVP. Most likely it will be a mix of both languages. if you would like to attend please send a short email to rsvp[a]supermarkt-berlin.net.
